Space to inspire

Project details

Our brief for this lovely house in Windsor, Berkshire was to create an extension with a difference, with a real focus on large family entertaining. Our proposal was to use our ‘Floating corner’ design and we came up with something truly special that would go on to become the hub of the home with a dining area and TV seating area plus feature fireplace for those cold winter evenings. Externally, the timber deck we added was an excellent way of extending the living space of the new Cool Building to outside via a flush threshold.  It now provides extra space for dining, entertaining or just simply relaxing.

A floating corner creates a feeling of extreme openness which is the ultimate in the indoor-outdoor design trend. The steel frame design allowed us to push back two elevations giving our client greater access to the outside.  Seamlessly connecting the roofline into the doors, the cedar soffit complimented the decking and housed external lighting creating subtle evening lighting great for late night entertaining. The addition of Origin bi-fold doors offered more flexibility and allowed for the full width of the frame to be opened. Lastly, the wood burning stove became the key focal point of the extension, warming the room during the winter months and becoming an elegant part of the furniture during the summer.

This floating corner Cool Buildings home extension in Windsor, Berkshire is a very fine example of what is proving to be one of our most popular offerings in 2019.  We look forward to designing and building more!

What Jon says:
This Cool Building fulfilled all of the criteria in not needing planning permission. The floating corner design was fully integrated into our clients’ existing home with the addition of a 3-metre wide permanent opening.  From a technical point of view, SAP calculations were provided to Building Control to justify thermal efficiency.
