Our client’s existing house in Chearsley, Buckinghamshire was an old farmhouse and the external walls were of stone construction and 500mm thick!
We were tasked with building a truly bespoke garden room home extension sympathetic to its surroundings and the materials already in use.
This Cool Building in Chearsley, Buckinghamshire is completely steel framed and the striking ‘sail’ you see in the photos is made of steel eaves brackets that change incrementally as they move around the building. There are so many beautiful features of this totally bespoke build – notably the circular roof lights, the floor heating which warms the space perfectly and ensures the heat stays in during the winter months, and the green roof to finish it all off – ensuring the perspective from above blended the extension into the grassy landscape beyond. Glass walls to all sides give beautiful views out across the valley whilst not distracting from the historic stone farmhouse behind them.
The external patio area was installed at the same level as the internal floor ensuring a truly seamless transition from inside to out.
Jon and the Cool Buildings team not only designed us a beautiful and sympathetic extension that really has the wow factor, but they also took extra care with our home. Everyone on site was clean and tidy and somehow managed to keep dust during the renovation to a minimum! My wife and I would happily and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking to add more space and something really special to their existing house. ~ Mr & Mrs Hill
What Jon says:
Stone walling does not support itself like brickwork will so we had to install a heavy duty propping system and sacrificial lintels to successfully form the opening. Nevertheless, this was a thoroughly enjoyable project from start to finish and we’re delighted that Mr and Mrs Hill are able to utilise their Cool Building just in time for Summer!
